Evaluation for Competency and Performance: Recovering ADDIE's silent E
- This talk was delivered at George Mason University on 6 June 2006: Learning and performance technologies have been grounded in Quality methods such as Instructional Systems Development (ISD) and Performance Centered Design (PCD) for over two decades. Critical to such methods are evaluation protocol – formative, summative, continuous evaluation, gap analysis and the like. But when pressed for details we find organizations woefully deficient in tools, techniques and a commitment to evaluation that ensures competency and continuous improvement. It is as if the quality process known as “ADDIE” – Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation and Evaluation – has a silent E. The session will examine this gap while uncovering the latest and greatest tools and techniques for performing evaluation. These include remote capture and stealth technologies designed to infer business practices among users, reporting tools that uncover gaps, embedding technologies that unobtrusively inject best practice and, generally, complete the Quality lifecycle by making resonant the otherwise silent E.
